October in the Boston Metro brings harvest festivals, corn mazes and family fun, accompanied by pleasantly-cool temperatures and autumn splendor. Here are some popular events and activities worth exploring!

Oct. 1-31: Connors Farm Corn Maze and Fall Fun. Rated as one of the top corn mazes in the country by USA Today, Connors Farm also features fresh produce, zombie paintball, hay rides, apple and pumpkin picking, and much more.

Oct. 1-31: Escobar’s Highland Farm, Portsmouth, RI, features a challenging corn maze, hay rides, pumpkin patch, and a family-friendly Halloween party on Oct. 24.

Oct. 2-3: Harpoon Brewery Octoberfest features beer, bratwursts, chicken dancing, and plenty of  oompah music! South Boston. Cover charge applies, see website for details and parking information.

Oct. 3: Douglas Octoberfest takes over main street in downtown Douglas with crafts, food, games, and live entertainment. Rides and games for the kids.

Oct. 4: Cambridge 5K Octoberfest begins with a German-themed race through Kendall Square to benefit Cambridge Family & Children’s Service. Run the race in your Lederhosen or Dirndl and you could win a prize in the German costume contest! Registration includes a race shirt, and food & beverages at the post-race Oktoberfest party.

Oct 17: South Shore Oktoberfest is an indoor event that happens rain or shine! Enjoy authentic German cuisine and beverages, partake in raffles and games, and have fun while raising money for charity.

Oct. 17-18: Wachusett Mountain Apple Fest/Octoberfest is a fall festival celebration with over 100 craft exhibitors, a farmers’ market, kids entertainment and peak fall foliage viewing from the SkyRide. Also enjoy Oktoberfest themed food specialties and German music.

Oct. 24-25:  Zoo Howl at Franklin Park Zoo offers family-friendly Halloween fun! Kids can enjoy the Trick-or-Treat-Trail, and there’s crafts, games, hay rides and costume contests. Dare to explore the haunted maze, or relax on the Duck boats, and be sure to visit the animals!
