Oct. 3: Best Chef Contest, Quincy. A delicious fundraiser benefitting Quincy Community Action Programs. Local chefs race the clock to create a gourmet meal using basic ingredients! Ticket includes a complete dinner featuring signature dishes from participating restaurants. Vote for your favorite chef, and enjoy raffles and auctions! 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets required; dress code applies.
Thursdays – Sundays, Oct. 3 through Nov. 2: Enjoy real-life spooky legends and lore told by costumed guides during the Cambridge Ghost Tours! Weekends through Oct 20: King Richard’s Faire, Carver. Experience the Renaissance era with jousting tournaments, acrobats, minstrels and regal processions. Feast upon giant turkey legs, browse the wares of talented artisans, and enjoy merriment on over 80 acres.
Oct. 10-13: Food and Wine Festival, Boston. The Taste of WGBH is one of the most popular food festivals in New England! This four-day, adults-only event is a culinary adventure of gourmet food samples, craft beers and excellent wines. Held at the WGBH studios lot, rain or shine. Oct. 18: Annual Pumpkin Float, Boston Common Frog Pond. Free, kid-friendly event! Refreshments, music and family activities. Bring an 8-inch or smaller carved pumpkin, and watch it be illuminated and set on a floating display.
Oct. 19-20: Head of the Charles Regatta. See athletes from around the world compete in this famous rowing race on the Charles River! Post-race reception event, Evening by the Charles, begins at 7 p.m. Free shuttle service available for spectators. See website for details.
Oct. 26-27: Zoo Howl at Franklin Park Zoo. Family-friendly Halloween fun! Trick-or-Treat-Trail and costume contest for kids, plus games, crafts, hay rides and a haunted maze for the whole family. See website for tickets, special programs, and more!
