Summer is drawing to a bittersweet end, and that means that our days of exercising outside are numbered. Thankfully, the city of Boston and its Metro South area have an abundance of programs and activities available for you to stay in shape and enjoy the gorgeous weather. Many Metro South area communities are close enough to the big city that people can skip their convenient class at the gym and attend some of these special, outdoor excursions in the area. Boston and its surrounding areas are beautiful in the summertime. Don’t miss your opportunity to get your outdoor workout in Boston’s summer sunshine!
From Boston Esplanade to Nantasket Beach, there are a number of places where you can stay in shape outside this summer. Here are a few programs that look promising:
Fitness on the Plaza
Every Monday through Friday through the end of this month, you can partake in a number of fitness classes in City Hall Plaza in Boston. From Zumba to bootcamp to yoga, you will undoubtedly find a workout that piques your interest on this list. Every Monday evening, get your dance moves going in Zumba. Take part in one of the program’s two boot camps Wednesday evening and Friday morning. You can also start your day with a relaxing Yoga class bright and early on Thursdays. The best part is that drop-ins are welcome, so you can give the class a try before the session ends.
The Esplanade Association’s Healthy, Fit and Fun Series
Community runs, Zumba and yoga are some of the classes that you can take on the Boston Esplanade. A variety of fitness clubs all around Boston are participating in this initiative to offer physical activity to the area’s residents. The best part? All classes are free and open to all ages and skill levels. This is the perfect opportunity to try a new workout. Classes run all month long!
Adult Rowing at the Boston Rowing Center
You can explore the city of Boston and get a workout at the same time every Monday and Wednesday night and Saturday morning. Participate in a free row where you learn basic rowing techniques and get exercise. Who knows, you may even participate in a race. If your kids are interested, they even offer South Shore rowing for youth. Visit www.lifesavingmuseum.org for more information!
One of the best parts about living in a city like Boston or the Metro South area is that we have a gorgeous backdrop for outdoor activities. Unfortunately, we really only have spring, summer and the beginning of fall to enjoy our scenic surroundings. Don’t miss your opportunity to stay active outside this summer in the area! There are a number of programs available in the area for your enjoyment, so use them and take advantage of the rest of summertime. Remember to be very cautious when outdoors during the dawn and dusk hours given the mosquito-carried threat of the EEE virus and West Nile Virus.
