As a business owner in the Boston Metro area, it’s a great idea to incorporate social media activity into your marketing plan. Social media has skyrocketed in popularity by businesses and consumers, and often, your customers/clients will first search for you on major social media platforms. As Boston Metro commercial real estate agents, we love to share tips with you that will help you grow your business!
Now that 2014 is half over, it’s time for you to look back at your social media marketing plan for this year and see if you need to increase your time and energy in that area of your business plan. Forbes shared some tips for making the most of your social media presence, and we’ve summarized some of them here.
Go through this list and make sure you’re taking the time to do each of these:
- Choose the right platforms. Each social media platform offers different perks and attracts different types of users. Facebook is great for connecting with other local business owners and local or national consumers. Twitter is great for connecting and networking with local business owners. Instagram and Pinterest are popular among younger crowds who are attracted to photos. LinkedIn uses a more professional approach. Choose a few to focus on that make the most sense for your business.
- Post timely. Each social media platform has its peak hours, so keep this in mind. Twitter is most active during weekday business hours. Facebook is busy during the afternoon and evening hours. Pinterest is active during evening hours and weekends. While this is important, these hours continually change, so it’s more important to think about when your target market will be active on these platforms.
- Post the right content. This is extremely important, because the type of content you post will depend on the type of business you’re running. Videos and images, such as photos or memes, are very popular and usually get a lot of response, but you can’t just post at random. If you’re locally based, post photos of the Boston Metro area and photos from other local businesses. If you sell products, post photos of the products that you sell. If you offer a service, post inspirational quotes that correlate with your service.
- Engage with your followers. Aside from posting images, post questions for your followers to respond to. If they do respond, or ask you a question, respond! Don’t leave them hanging. Post fun local events and activities that they might be interested in knowing about. Offer your followers special discounts or giveaways for following your page. Only advertise your products or services every once in a while. Don’t go overboard, or people will get turned off.
