May is a busy month in the Boston Metro area! From weekend getaways to spectacular festivals, Boston offers a variety of recreation. Enjoy the splendor of a New England spring, and gear up for summer with these favorite Boston events!
Mother’s Day events:
May 10: Lilac Sunday at the Arnold Arboretum. Spend a leisurely day with mom amid 370 lilac plants on the beautiful greens of Arnold Arboretum. There will be live music and family activities at this free event. Food trucks will be on site, or you can pack a picnic. Note: use of public transportation is recommended; there is construction in the area, so please visit the Arboretum website for special directions if driving in.
May 10: Mother’s Day Brunch Cruise with Boston Harbor Cruises. Treat mom to an elegant brunch buffet while enjoying Boston’s cityscape. The peaceful, 2-hour cruise floats along the inner harbor. $64 per person, includes a rose for mom. Reservations required, call soon!
Boston Metro Area May festivals and events:
May 9-17: Bay State Bike Week features bike rodeos, organized rides, breakfasts, and workshops. Hobnob with pedal-pushers at biking events throughout the metro area.
May 10-17: Together Boston celebrates the diversity of music, art, and technology through live performances, films, exhibits, and educational panels. The eclectic offerings create a multi-cultural, multi-media experience. Located in Cambridge.
May 15-17: Fort Point Open Studios invites the public to explore the numerous artist studios located within 14 historic buildings in the Fort Point neighborhood. Meet local artists and explore the work of painters, sculptors, ceramicists, jewelers, performance artists, photographers and more.
May 22-24: Boston Calling Music Festival features several outdoor stages of all-day live music at City Hall Plaza. Food and beverage vendors are located throughout the festival. While the event is family-friendly, please note that strollers and backpacks are not allowed.
May 24: Memorial Day Parade, Somerville. Parade steps off at 1:00 p.m. from the Somerville City Hall and proceeds up Highland Avenue, ending at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Get an early start – local roads begin closing at 10:00 a.m.
