A few weeks ago, we discussed training grants awarded through the Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Express Program. I’d now like to explore another part of this program: the Hiring Incentive Training Grant. This particular program has different criteria – it assists companies in paying for training for new employees who have been unemployed for 6 months or more, with the exception of Veterans. Here are the specifics, according to the Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund website:
- The period of unemployment is waived for Veterans – even if they’ve been out of work for one minute, companies can hire immediately and apply for training grants
- Companies of any size may apply
- Applications need to be submitted within 30 days of the new hire’s start date
- The company must pay the wages of the employee while he or she is in training
- Training programs must be completed within 12 months or less
- Applications may be submitted anytime – there are no deadlines
- Grant decisions are made approximately 3 days from the date of application
- Trainees must be residents of Massachusetts
- Total grant request can’t exceed $30,000 over a 1 year period
- There is a maximum request of $2,000 per new hire, so a company could potentially receive grants to train 15 employees per year
Like the Express Program, this is a great way for companies to get help paying for necessary employee training. Additionally, it’s a great opportunity to hire and train Veterans and those that have been unemployed for 6 months or more. I hope that you will be able to take advantage of one of these excellent grant programs for your Boston metro area business. If you have any questions or comments regarding the programs, please contact me or leave a comment. I’d be happy to discuss.
